On the Lighter Side...

In an effort to be proactive, I shaved my head before my first chemo session (they said one side effect would be total hair loss. Total. Hair. Loss.). We then pulled out a bunch of hats to see which one was the best. You can vote on your favorite by using the poll on the left.

Au Natural

Ranger Rick

London Cabby

Larry of Arabia

Giant Smurf
Egghead

Dapper Dan

 Arrg Matey
Renaissance Man

  1. This is hilarious but frightening at the same time! I hardly recognize you!
What about a hat made from Penni fur??? You have Rennaisance man listed but not the picture! Is it a flat cap or what?
First choice is the Cabby hat, but second would be the bandana.
    hehehehe!

They are all excellent!!! Personally, I'd suggest not deciding on a single look, but to let the spirit move you--to choose each day what seems to appeal at that moment. Perhaps the philosophical Renaissance Man will suit one day, but, feeling rebellious the next day, you'll opt for the pirate look (perhaps with the addition of a large, clip-on dangly earring. If you're a little blue, the Smurf hat might be appropriate, etc. etc. etc.

  5. Au natural has much to commend it, but I like also Peggy's "let the spirit move you." Clifford

so like the Talib i know and love - to see the ridiculous side of trauma. Frankly, there is a little bit of you in every hat... I'm especially fond of the one that makes you look like a a garden Gnome. Something healing about sitting under a pyramid or somesuch. Your advice about quicksand is wise - that's the time when you apply liberal amounts of Faith. Slather it on like peanut butter. I trust That is what is guiding you...After 5 or so years i know you through your great Faith.
You have so many friends who wish to accompany you down this road; to clear your way of debris, to comfort and encourage you and make sure you realize just how handsome you are in all those funky hats. You even look good bald! Just shows to go you, my friend, there is a good side to all of this. Sounds crazy, but in times such as this, the joy is in the little things.
ps. I'll bet you the winning hat will be the Renaissance Man, as it so fits you're gifts.
Thank you for keeping us all in the loop - your names will continue to be in our prayers until the 'all clear' siren sounds. xoxoxo n

I, too, think that they all suit you, in one way or another, Talib...I particularly liked the Ranger Rick & Dapper Dan looks, but like the idea of using the hat as costume, to suit your day, mood, attitude...
    Blessings to you ~

  8. Larry of Arabia looks too much like me on the job throwing newspapers. No.
Although, Ranger Rick is my favorite, Carol and I took Dapper Dan or London Cabby, which appears a little bit overdressed in 7-11.
We settled on Dapper Dan. Ah, but if you don't lose it all you might want to keep it trimmed weekly with your Wahl clippers. I like mine it is way comfortable and saves that messing around with a perfect cut, just whoosh its done.
Also, Talib, this is very hard on all of us also you know. So you might want to stick with Larry of Arabia since you will fit in with the general population with a "baseball cap" and the selection is immense. You will never be frought with, "Hey dude, what's up with the odd headgear." Stick to a baseball cap. You'll never even have cause in public to explain why you are bald. It depends. I guess I would really like to avoid the whole subject. Let's talk socks and shoes.

    Hi Talib,
Against my better judgement, (I have never really been a big smurf fan) I voted for the Giant Smurf. Maybe it was the blue, maybe it was the out-of-left-field whimsy. Whatever it was, it worked for me. I hope whatever you pick works for you. Actually, since bald is "IN", the sans hat route might be a hit! God bless you my friend! - Dave
